The Social Justice Center of Marin kicked off a week of peace actions on Friday September 16th with our annual dinner, featuring guest speaker, Scott Brown, author of “Active Peace” who spoke about how restorative justice is a key component to the larger peace movement.

On  September 19th & 20th, Campaign Nonviolence, in collaboration with the Center for Domestic Peace and the Social Justice Center of Marin, collected  nonviolence pledges from students and staff at our local College of Marin.  The Center for Domestic Peace focused on conversations, literature and nonviolence pledges pertaining to healthy relationships, healthy households and emotional/physical safety in our homes.  Campaign Nonviolence’s table focused on conversations, information, literature and nonviolence pledges to further public commitment to peace as the alternative to war, racism, climate injustice, and religious intolerance.  We were accompanied by a giant puppet of Mahatma Gandhi, compliments of Jes Richardson and Gene Kelly.  The Gandhi puppet, along with Jes Richardson and Gene Kelly, make appearances at political and peace events locally and nationwide.   Our week of actions wrapped up on International Peace Day, September 21st, when the Social Justice Center of Marin, in collaboration with Seniors for Peace, demonstrated for international peace at a small rally in Mill Valley.
